Editorial Services

XXXXXX Does your document need a careful review for grammar and typos? Even one overlooked error can leave you making a mediocre first impression instead of a great one. Invest in a fresh pair of eyes to review and professionally edit your document. Two levels of editing services are available:

This type of edit is rules-based and deals more with cosmetics than substance:

  • capitalization, abbreviations, spelling, and hyphenation
  • punctuation, parentheses, and quotation marks
  • grammar, syntax, and usage

Available add-on: Fact checking.

Content edit

A content edit is your first step when your text is still a revision or two away from completion. I rewrite sentences for clarity and tighten paragraphs for flow. I may reword subheads for greater curb appeal, or add new ones. A content edit asks:

  • Are there structural weaknesses?
  • Are sections balanced in length and depth of detail?
  • Are clichés or slang words overused?
  • If you quote others, are quotations accurate and properly cited?
  • For academic work, is your position (argument) developed and well supported?

When you receive my edit—both in-line emendations and marginal comments—you’ll be ready to tackle a fresh revision. Be willing to wrestle with your own writing in the revision process. We can work together until the piece is solid and ready for copyediting. Building a document is like building a house: It’s sweaty and dusty on the work site, but in the end you’ve taken no shortcuts—and it shows.

Available add-ons: Fact checking; copyediting (in a separate follow-up edit to a revised document).
